We announce that there will be a circle before the screening and then at the end we give people a break of 10 minutes and put chairs in a circle if possible. Usually about half of the people leave. That’s fine. Circles are not for everyone at this point. If you can’t get into a real circle invite people to do the best they can (for example in a theater or lecture hall with fixed seats). Sometimes you can use the front row of seats and then have people sit against the wall. Explain that part of what must be broken down to step out of Empire is the sense of hierarchy. The circle is structurally non-hierarchical. So take a seat yourself. A TALKING PIECE You can bring a formal “talking stick” or you can just improvise. Explain that the use of a talking piece helps make it possible for people to speak without interruption. It also invites people to be mindful as they speak that they are part of a group. It helps level the playing field for introverts, who often take a little longer to formulate what they want to say. The principle of the talking piece is that we speak from our hearts what we are moved to speak. Others listen from the heart and with respect. When one listens from the heart, even if they don’t agree with what someone is saying they listen actively for what DOES resonate and for the deeper intent in what someone is sharing. Once a person has spoken, they pass the piece along. Tell people it is fine “to pass” and just pass the piece along if they are not ready to speak when the talking piece comes around. They will be given another chance when everyone else has spoken. But no one is obliged to speak. It is fine to simply show up and listen. INTRODUCTIONS: In order to support growing community, ask that when people speak they begin by saying their name and where they are from. QUESTIONS: We introduce the circle by saying that the purpose of the circle is not “film critique.” Film criticism is a really fine pasttime and people are certainly free to talk at another time about the best and the worst parts of the movie in terms of filmmaking. But this circle is to have deep and heartfelt conversation about the CONTENT of the movie. Critiquing the film can too often simply be a distraction from this much more important activity of speaking about the content. These are the questions we often invite people to respond to: What moved you most about the movie? And identify what feelings, glad, sad, mad, scared, ashamed, were touched? As you let the movie sink in, what will its impact be on you? WRAPPING UP: 1) Thank people for coming and for speaking. 2) LOCAL NETWORKING: You may want to have a sign up sheet for people who want to keep in touch. 3) FIVE THINGS YOU CAN DO (handout) People like to feel like there’s something to do. Feel free to use the Five Things You Can Do handout. You can add your local contact information to it as well, if you like. А"А# $ %А i4@ёџ4NormalCJOJPJQJmH :@: Heading 1$$@&a$5CJ <A@ђџЁ<Default Paragraph Font4>@ђ4Title$a$5CJ OJQJ џџџџ џџ z™ џџ z™J { № є8ёаБ _ ` ` й8ёаБ _ ` ` @ b k ˜ :џџ ts bennettJMacintosh HD:Users:sallyerickson:Desktop:wawtg:Post-Screening Dialogue.doc ts bennettJMacintosh HD:Users:sallyerickson:Desktop:wawtg:Post-Screening Dialogue.docsteve mcconnell<Macintosh HD:Users:admin:Desktop:Post-Screening Dialogue.docsteve mcconnell<Macintosh HD:Users:admin:Desktop:Post-Screening Dialogue.docsteve mcconnellVMacintosh HD:Users:admin:Documents:Microsoft User Data:AutoRecovery save of Post-Screesteve mcconnell<Macintosh HD:Users:admin:Desktop:Post-Screening Dialogue.docSally Erickson;sally:Users:sally:Desktop:wawtg:post-screening-dialogue.docsteve mcconnell=Macintosh HD:Users:admin:Desktop:PostScreenDial8407Update.docSally Erickson<sally:Users:sally:Desktop:wawtg:postscreendial8407update.docSally Erickson=sally:Users:sally:Desktop:wawtg:postscreendial91007update.doc>)=8ііџџџџџџџџџ„8„˜ўЦ8^„8`„˜ўo()„„˜ўЦ^„`„˜ў.‚„и „LџЦи ^„и `„Lџ.€„Ј „˜ўЦЈ ^„Ј `„˜ў.€„x„˜ўЦx^„x`„˜ў.‚„H„LџЦH^„H`„Lџ.€„„˜ўЦ^„`„˜ў.€„ш„˜ўЦш^„ш`„˜ў.‚„И„LџЦИ^„И`„Lџ.>)=8џџџџџџџџтёё џ@€ббWбаъџХB P @GTimes New Roman5€Symbol3 ArialY PalatinoTimes New Roman3TimesQHandwriting - Dakota 1ˆ№аhэkЙ†эkЙ† щ№ЅРДД€0vŸ r@№џџ)Post-Screening Dialogue Circle Guidelinessteve mcconnellSally Ericksonўџ р…ŸђљOhЋ‘+'Гй0ˆˆФашє ( D P \hpx€'*Post-Screening Dialogue Circle GuidelinesWooststeve mcconnelltevNormalcSally Erickson2llMicrosoft Word 10.0@FУ#@Fэ‘>іЧ@Fэ‘>іЧўџ еЭеœ.“—+,љЎ0 hpˆ˜  ЈАИР Ш ў'blast interneti v$ *Post-Screening Dialogue Circle Guidelines Title ўџџџўџџџўџџџ!"#$%&'ўџџџ§џџџ*ўџџџўџџџўџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџRoot Entryџџџџџџџџ РF•јіЧ,€1TableџџџџџџџџџџџџWordDocumentџџџџџџџџSummaryInformation(џџџџDocumentSummaryInformation8џџџџџџџџџџџџ CompObjџџџџXObjectPoolџџџџџџџџџџџџ•јіЧ•јіЧџџџџџџџџџџџџўџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџўџџџџџ РFMicrosoft Word DocumentўџџџNB6WWord.Document.8
